Our story

A family legacy since 1967

Three generations dedicated to teaching English with their own structured and continuously updated method.

James D. Ahearn y María Guadalupe de Icaza con sus diez hijos en su casa en Cuernavaca, México
The Ahearn family at their home in Cuernavaca, Mexico. James D. Ahearn and María Guadalupe de Icaza with their ten children. Each of their children became a character in the original Lang-Lab books.

From one family to generations of students

Lang-Lab was born in Acapulco, Mexico, when James D. Ahearn He began teaching English to his wife's friends, María Guadalupe de Icaza.

Recognizing the difficulties faced by Spanish speakers, James developed his own books, exercises, and recordings with an American accent. He also incorporated an audio lab so students could listen, repeat, and practice individually.

His books were inspired by his own family life. James and Maria had ten children, and each of them was incorporated as a character within the Lang Lab lessons and conversations.

After Lang-Lab Acapulco, Lang-Lab Cuernavaca opened. Later, the family continued the legacy with Lang-Lab Tijuana, Lang-Lab San Diego, and Lang-Lab Texas.

Today, the original method and books continue to be used, updated with modern vocabulary, current situations, video exercises, and digital tools.
