- Exercises designed to apply each topic.
- Frequent participation throughout the class.
- Teacher corrections and guidance.

Purposeful Learning
Every Activity Has a Reason and a Clear Objective
It is not about memorizing phrases without understanding them. You learn how to build your own ideas and use the language independently.A Complete English Program
2 Grammar Courses + 5 Conversation Courses
The Lang-Lab program begins with two grammar courses and continues with five conversation courses. First, you build the foundations of the language, and then you use them to communicate about a variety of topics and real-life situations.
Grammar 1 and Grammar 2 develop the structures you need to form your own ideas in English.
Five books with different topics help you expand your vocabulary, comprehension, and conversation practice.
First Stage
Grammar: Learn How English Works
Instead of limiting yourself to memorizing phrases, you learn the structures you need to form your own questions, answers, and sentences. The two grammar courses correspond to the first two levels of the program.
- Clear explanations supported by Spanish.
- Written, oral, and audiovisual exercises.
- Pronunciation and comprehension practice.
- Evaluations to measure your progress.

Grammar 1
Develop the foundation you need to build and understand sentences in English.

Grammar 2
Continue developing structures that allow you to express increasingly complete ideas.
Second Stage
Conversation: Five Courses, Five Groups of Topics
Gold, Diamond, Emerald, Opal, and Onyx do not represent fixed English proficiency levels. Each book contains different topics and situations designed to develop vocabulary, comprehension, pronunciation, and conversation.

Gold
English for everyday situations and conversations.

Diamond
Topics related to city life and different social situations.

Emerald
Vocabulary and conversation about health, activities, and nature.

Opal
English related to travel, places, experiences, and culture.

Onyx
Professional topics and conversations about situations in today's world.
How Do the Conversation Levels Work?
The Book You Study and Your Conversation Level Are Different
The five books are organized by topics, not as a fixed scale of difficulty. Your level reflects your progress in conversation. After completing your first conversation course, you advance to Conversational Beginner, regardless of which conversation book you studied.
After completing your second conversation course, you advance to Conversational Advanced, regardless of the titles of the books you studied.
Not every student needs to begin with Grammar 1. Your placement test determines whether you should begin at Beginner, Intermediate, Conversational Beginner, or Conversational Advanced.
Learn words and expressions related to each topic.
Listen to English and develop your ability to understand it.
Answer questions, participate, and express your own ideas.
Practice communicating with greater confidence and naturalness.
Materials Developed for Each Course
Each Course Uses Two Books
The first book is used at the beginning of the course and the second approximately halfway through. Each book costs $45.A Family Legacy Since 1967
Three generations dedicated to teaching English through a proprietary, structured method that continues to evolve.

From One Family to Generations of Students
Lang-Lab began in Acapulco, Mexico, when James D. Ahearn started teaching English to the friends of his wife, María Guadalupe de Icaza.
After identifying the challenges Spanish speakers faced when learning English, James developed his own books, exercises, and recordings using his American accent. He also introduced an audio laboratory so students could listen, repeat, and practice individually.
His books were inspired by his own family life. James and María had ten children, and each of them was incorporated as a character into Lang-Lab's lessons and conversations.
After Lang-Lab Acapulco, Lang-Lab Cuernavaca was opened. The family later continued the legacy through Lang-Lab Tijuana, Lang-Lab San Diego, and Lang-Lab Texas.
Today, the original method and books are still used, updated with modern vocabulary, current situations, video exercises, and digital tools.
